CityLife is one of the largest urban regeneration projects in the recent history of Milan, based on an international competition won by a consortium that includes architects Zaha Hadid, Arata Isozaki and Daniel Libeskind as designers. After having participated with the team headed by Gustafson Porter for the site’s urban park, One Works was later asked to design the Piazza Tre Torri.
Having a similar position and function as Central Park in Manhattan, but unlike the modern box-like buildings that only create a separation between the park and the city, Chaoyang Park Plaza instead is an expansion of nature. It is an extension of the park into the city, naturalizing the CBD’s strong artificial skyline, borrowing scenery from a distant landscape – a classical approach to Chinese garden architecture, where nature and architecture blend into one another.
The Cartesiusdriehoek in Utrecht, a former marshalling yard of the Dutch Railways, will be transformed into the first urban blue zone. The masterplan for this new residential neighbourhood with 2,600 homes, a large central park, a school, a supermarket, catering and various other facilities is inspired by a scientific theory about areas around the world where people live longer, healthier and happier lives, the so-called blue zones. The area is set to become the most healthy, well-connected to public transport and bicycle-friendly neighbourhood in the Netherlands.
The Bund Finance Centre – a major new mixed-use development jointly designed by Foster + Partners and Heatherwick Studio – is set to revitalise Shanghai’s waterfront. Occupying a prominent site on the Bund, the buildings define the ‘end point’ to Shanghai’s most famous street. The 420,000-square metre masterplan is highly permeable for pedestrians, with the design conceived as a point of connection between the old town and the new financial district.
Black flying house hovers under the arch of the old railway bridge. Attracts attention, entices you to visit and raises questions. Black flying house is an installation which is composed of a living room with a stove and a sleeping loft. The object is suspended by steel cables. The installation includes also a ladder that is hidden nearby. It’s a bit of a conundrum that encourages passers-by to think. Its archetypal depiction adds the mysterious atmosphere of the military complex. This area is located just 15 minutes walking from the city center of town Pardubice. The formal solution is succinct. The resulting picture almost picturesque.
C.F. Møller Architects, Kristin Jarmund Architects and Rodeo Architects announce the plan for a new urban space with a square, hotel and high-rise building at Oslo Central Station, to create attractive recreational areas and effective urban connections. The project was developed for KLP Eiendom.
The former Bijlmerbajes in Amsterdam, a prison complex in the South-East of the city built in the 1970s, will be redeveloped by a team lead by AM Real Estate, in which OMA is responsible for the masterplan of the 7.5 ha site, as well as the design of a significant portion of the 135,000 m2 building development. Other collaborators include FABRICations architects and LOLA Landscape.

Designed by Cox Architecture and completed twelve months ahead of schedule, the Anna Meares Velodrome is a world class venue featuring an international competition standard 250 metre timber cycling track, with its facilities catering for a range of cyclists and a number of indoor court sports.
The Aga Khan Park lies on the outskirts of Toronto’s city centre in a dense setting surrounded by high traffic streets and highways. It occupies a 17- acre site where two institutional buildings are housed: the Aga Khan Museum and the Ismaili Centre. The Park’s aspiration was not only to embrace and unify these two buildings, but also to offer a serene and contemplative space.
CORE has worked with Gould Property Company and Oxford Properties Group to design 600 Massachusetts Avenue NW. 600 Mass is located between Massachusetts Avenue, and Eye and 6th Streets NW in Washington, DC. The 11-story building offers over 400,000 SF of multi-tenant and retail space. Its design combines highly-efficient floor planning, clean aesthetics, and forward-thinking amenities.
